Reading List

Another long (16 hours) at the mall. Yea, I said it. Mall. Very
tired, but so nice to have driven my car to work today so I could
just drive home and not have to wait for (and on) a bus.

Ended up closing the newsstand tonight. FIrst time I've spent any
real time down there. After about 30 minutes straightening magazines,
books, and even candy bars, I was done. Then it got a little boring.
I stood outside and watched the crowds. Different than the mall
people (not to be confused with the mole people), who are better
dressed. Three uniformed cops, all blond women, kicking out the low
level cons "helping" tourists at the change machines. Endless pairs
of women shoppers with their booty-bags. Tourists (you can tell by
they way they're dressed: clean, new, neat, but way out of style).
And, of course, the crazy street people.

At different times I smelled someone smoking a fine cigar, pot, fried
chicken, and human excrement.

After a while I started reading magazines. A big no-no for us
bookstore workers but I was bored out of my mind. I think I must have
thumbed through about 20 magazines, mostly pretty bad. But the New
Yorker, the Economists, Wired, and few of the computer/art magazines
were pretty interesting.

The cafe called (!) to let me know they were out of milk. I called
the service manager and told her to go buy milk (duh!).

Tired now and going to hit the sack.
