Late Night

Got home just after midnight. Actually, not a bad day. Interviewed
four people for jobs. Fixed a register. Taught our new supervisor a
little of how to count down drawers and close the store.

My friend Stefan is in town (on a press junket from Hong Kong) and
we're going to see the A's on Wednesday. A friend of his has a luxury
box. I feel a bit guilty since I am not a baseball fan but I am a fan
of junk food and I'm assured that will be in plenty. Thursday we'll
go shopping for used books and used tee-shirts for his coworkers who
love American junk.

He's been having books, movies, and cd's shipped to my house to pick
up and I'm enjoying some of them (with his permission!). Most of the
books are copies of his books (Sex and Zen and a Bullet in the Head,
and Hollywood East; both about HK movies and both generously giving
me a small credit in the aknowledgements).

These meetings are bittersweet for me, since he's gone on to a career
as a writer and I've been sitting on my hands. I've been having the
blues lately, mostly, I think, due to the workload and lack of
downtime. And I'm happy for Stefan and his success (he's now head
editor at ComputerWorld Hong Kong). Maybe I'll try NANOWRIMO again
this year...
