couple years. It's not because I have 730 boxer shorts in every
conceivable plaid configuration. Or that I have only one teflon-
coated stainless-steel thong. No, through the magic of friendship and
commerce, others have done my laundry. Until now.
I've been dreading this day. Putting it off, too. Between the kid and
myself we had five bags reaking up the hallway. Yesterday I loaded up
the car, got some change, and drove to the closest one where I
wouldn't have to pay a parking meter. Opps. They're closed for
remodeling. Drove to the next one (Hollywood Suds) but couldn't find
a place to park. Same with the next two. So I dragged the bags back
upstairs (can't leave something as tempting as laundry in the car
overnight in this city!).
Today, I decided to just walk to the laundramat. Prices have gone up!
$2.25 a load (x4) and about $1.50 to dry each of 'em. Only one other
person there already folding so I had my pick of machines. I decided
on some conservative looking top-loaders rather than the $5.50 super-
front loader that must be used to clean rugs, dogs, small cars.
Listened to Malcom Gladwell's TED speech (excellent!) and part of an
audiobook about time management. Before I knew it the laundry was
done. Nowhere near the tedious chore I had anticipated. Hey, I could
get used to doing this every couple months or so...!
