Clopen is a merge of Close and Open. It's when you close one night
and then open the next day. I've had a few in the past month.
Saturday I was at work until 12:30 am, then back at work at 6 am. Got
a good three hours sleep. I actually planned this one so I could get
some work done Sunday morning before it got busy. Silly me. It was
busy almost right from the open. Too many of our management either
can't close (or open on Sundays) or don't have enough experience to
do so, especially on a busy day.
We're loosing more people and are actually hiring again. I am
physically sore from the jogged running around. Our store tends to be
a bit cramped and you never take the same path twice; dodging
customers, displays, and picking up blow-cards (magazine subscription
postcards, may the inventor burn in hell) and abandoned books and
magazines (as well as cups, napkins, stir sticks, toothpicks, lost
umbrellas, etc.). None-the-less (with the exception of the
hysterically crying woman who was probably off her meds) it's been a
good crowd. Needy. But good holiday spirit.
Yesterday I bought a five pound bag of coffee beans at the Castro
Cheesery (needed for clopens) and on a whim bought Robin and myself a
couple burgers and onion rings at Sliders. I got us the double 8 oz.
cheeseburgers not really thinking that that's a whole pound of meat,
each! None the less, we both finished them off. Of course then I took
a long, deep nap. And I slept very well last night, too. This
morning; great cup of coffee!

I did a lot of clopens (clever you!) at the other big box chain bookstore and it's one of the reasons I left there. Not good for mind or body or personal life. That one day 40% off email was loads of fun, no? I'm enjoying your blog, Mr. Blah blah...
