Heat

The heat is on as Autumn calls
This last week of brave summer
This year shy and demure
Swallowed by cold Pacific airs
Spilling over the city
Like an overflowing bath.

The landlord has adjusted the thermostat
The old radiators rumble and crackle
Like the bones in my feet and knees
The floor boards are warm on my bare feet
As I shuffle off to another day
In my Autumn.
