Since I've been working so much, and my laundry routine is far from
set, I've been buying new clothes instead of depending on getting the
laundry done. I bought 6 tee shirts last week, and I went online and
bought 3 pair of work pants from Dickies, using a pair I already have
for size, style.
They're here and they're just what I wanted and needed! So nice to
have some clean clothes... I ended up taking some laundry in to be
done for me. It'll be expensive, but I just haven't had the time. I'm
also burning my merch credit in our cafe for meals, since I'm too
lazy to make lunch everyday, and don't have time to go out. Besides,
most of the time I need to be in the store as much as possible.
We've been interviewing and hiring like crazy. Hired 12 new people in
the past few days. I'm still learning the names of the original staff!
We added a second register in our cafe yesterday and it's been better
than expected. At no time did we have the huge lines we've had on
other weekends (especially when our free coffee coupon was in
rotation -- much copied and distributed on the web -- for our "Grand
Opening"). And our sales (three $300 hours!) were better than any
other weekend except our crazy opening weekend (boy, was our cafe
staff -- and the rest of us -- surprised by that!).
Our cafe is a kind of monopoly, being the only cheap, easy place to
get something to eat or drink on the upper floors except for the
movie theatre above us.
Meanwhile, our little calendar kiosk is making more money than we
expected. More, even, than our newsstand!
Rumors are flying in the store. Mostly because I've been so slow to
act (read; methodical) re. HR issues. And the schedule was late this
week and somewhat of a mess to boot. I had to add a note that I would
fix any issues (like scheduling people days they can't work). Adding
(and subtracting) staff in the middle of putting the schedule
together is a challenge. Didn't help that someone has been messing
with the schedule, and the management team making up their own
schedules (no!). That's part of the reason I've had to work the past
ten days straight, and closing the store all this weekend. That's
been addressed, but it put me in the doghouse for letting it happen.
Tomorrow, a day off!
Maybe...

Wow, you have been through the mill. I'm
proud of you for staying so positive, I know this isn't easy for you. Funny about the managers making their own schedules...must be nice!
