Tough But Fair

I'm feeling the need for a paradigm shift in my management skills. I
think I've been to much the nice guy and not enough the "tough but
fair" manager. This week our Sales Manager is gone and several others
are going, too. Most involuntarily. And we are hiring; several new
people starting this week. It's a time I am worried will stress the
rest of the staff and we need to make sure we are reassuring them
that we still want them and need them. Bad time to hide and be
secretive (which, in part, we have to be; discretion).

Interesting how some of the other managers seem to instinctively
realized this and have been supportive. Including managers from
other stores! They have been very supportive. Now it's a matter of
staying organized, brave, and fair. Keeping the main thing the main
thing: serving the customers, serving each other.
